Luggage transfer

Please write your name on the luggage label provided and attach it to your suitcase that is going to be transferred between overnights. Each morning, please ensure that your luggage is packed and ready to be uplifted to your next overnight by 0930 hours.

Arrival times

Based on the arrival times of previous walkers, the accommodations along the trail have a fairly accurate idea about the time you should arrive on their doorstep.

If you set off for the days walk late in the day, make a diversion that will delay you, spend longer than planned exploring, decide to go for a drink/meal before continuing to your accommodation or are delayed for any other reason please telephone your accommodation and let them know that you are going to be late. This will prevent them from worrying and needlessly alerting the Emergency Services.

Meals

Packed lunches and evening meals are not included in the tour price. Packed lunches may be obtained from your accommodations or a shop nearby. Evening meals are available from your accommodations or from an inn nearby (see itinerary for details).

Itinerary

Monday
Overnight: Corbridge

Accommodation: Dyvels Hotel, Station Road, Corbridge, NE45 5AY.
Telephone: 01434 633633.

Dyvels Hotel: The Dyvels Hotel is a welcoming traditional inn, a few minutes walk from the village centre and close to the railway station. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and television. There are facilities for drying wet clothing and walking boots.

Meals: Evening meals are available from Dyvels or any of the several restaurants and pubs in the village. Packed lunches are available from your accommodation. If you require a packed lunch for the following day, please order it the evening before.

Room type: Twin en suite room.
Two double en suite rooms.

Directions: From the railway station walk along the road towards Corbridge for a short distance to reach the Dyvels Hotel on the right-hand side of the road.

By car: Follow signs for the railway station in Corbridge. The Dyvels Hotel is situated at the end of the road leading to the railway station on the left-hand side of the road.

Arrival Time: Rooms are available from 1600 hours.

Tuesday .
Corbridge to Hexham (5 miles/8km).
Overnight: Hexham

Accommodation: Kitty Frisk House, Corbridge Road, Hexham, Northumberland, NE46 1UN.

Kitty Frisk House: Kitty Frisk House is an elegant and spacious Edwardian House, set amidst mature woodland within its own extensive grounds. It is situated on the edge of the attractive old abbey town of Hexham. It provides a warm welcome and very comfortable accommodation. Kitty Frisk House has been awarded four diamonds by the ETC. All of the large, beautifully decorated bedrooms have tea and coffee-making facilities and television. There is a comfortable residents’ lounge. Kitty Frisk House has facilities for drying wet clothes and walking boots.

Evening meals are available from any of the many inns and restaurants in Hexham. Packed lunches are available from your accommodation. If you require a packed lunch for the following day, please order it the evening before.

Directions: Follow the route through Argyle Terrace to enter Priestpopple (pg 65 of guidebook). Turn right along the road (towards Corbridge) for about ½ mile (0.8km) to a signposted driveway on the right-hand side of the road that leads to Kitty Frisk House.

Arrival time: Rooms are available from 1500 hours.

Wednesday.
Hexham to Chollerford (6 miles/9.5km).
Overnight: Wall

Accommodation: The Hadrian Hotel, Wall, Hexham, NE46 4HB.

Hadrian Hotel: Hadrian Hotel is a family-run former 18th century coaching inn in the centre of the small village of Wall. It provides a warm welcome, comfortable accommodation and tasty home-cooked meals. All of the en-suite rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and television. There are facilities for drying wet clothes and walking boots.

Meals: Evening meals are available from the Hadrian Hotel. Packed lunches are also available from your accommodation. If you require a packed lunch for the following day, please order it the evening before.

Directions: The Hadrian Hotel is situated at the southern end of the small village of Wall. Follow the route of Hadrian’s Wall Path to a junction with the A 6079 road (pg 59 of guidebook). Turn left along the road for about 700m (775 yards) to the Hadrian Hotel on the right-hand side of the road.

Arrival time: Rooms are available from 1500 hours.

Thursday.
Chollerford to Once Brewed (11½ miles/18.5km).
Overnight: Once Brewed.

Accommodation: Saughy Rigg Farm, Once Brewed, NE49 9PT.

Saughy Rigg Farm: Saughy Rigg Farm is an isolated old stone-built farmhouse situated just to the north of the Wall. It provides a warm and friendly welcome and very comfortable accommodation. It has been awarded three diamonds by the ETC. All of the en-suite rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and television. There are facilities for drying wet clothes and walking boots.

Evening meals are only available from Saughy Rigg Farm (24 hours notice required). Packed lunches are also available from your accommodation. If you require a packed lunch, please order it the evening before.

Directions: Follow the route of Hadrian’s Wall Walk to the minor road just to the west of the car park at Steel Rigg (grid ref 751676). At this point leave the trail and turn right along the road. Follow the road past a turning on the right to Gibbs Hill, to reach after about ¾ mile (1.5km), a turning on the right leading to Saughy Rigg.

Arrival time: Rooms are available from 1500 hours.

Friday – Extra Night – Once Brewed.

Saturday .
Once Brewed to Gilsland (8½ miles/13.5km).
Overnight: Gilsland

The Hill on the Wall: The Hill on the Wall is a fortified farmhouse situated about ¼ mile (0.5km) north of Birdoswald. It provides a warm and homely atmosphere and comfortable accommodation. It has been awarded four diamonds by the ETC. There are facilities for drying clothes and walking boots.

Evening meals are available for the Samson Inn which is less than a mile away from the Hill-on-the-Wall. A taxi service is available. Should you require this please advise the Hill-on-the-Wall and it will be arranged for you. Packed lunches are available from your accommodation. If you require a packed lunch for the following day, please order it the evening before.

Directions: The position of Hill on the Wall is highlighted on your map (Grid ref: 625668).

From Willowford Bridge Abutments follow the route of Hadrian’s Wall Path over the new footbridge and along a fine section of Wall to reach a minor road just before the fort. Turn right (north) and follow the road for about 200 yards (180 m) to a footpath on the right-hand side of the road. Turn right along the footpath that crosses the valley to the B6318 road. On reaching the road turn right along the road for about 200 yards (180m) to The Hill on the Wall on the left-hand side of the road.

Arrival time: Rooms are available from 1630 hours.

Sunday
Gilsland to Brampton (10 miles/16km).
Overnight: Brampton.

Accommodation: Oakwood Park Hotel, Longtown Road, Brampton, Telephone: 01697 72436.

Oakwood Park Hotel: Oakwood Park Hotel is an imposing Victorian house with original walled gardens. The hotel has been awarded three diamonds by the ETC. All of the rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, telephones and television. There are facilities for drying wet clothes and walking boots.

Meals: Evening meals are available from any of the pubs of restaurants in Brampton.

Room type: Twin en suite room.
Two double en suite rooms.

Directions: From the centre of Brampton town, take the right hand fork and walk out along Longtown Road towards the Police Station and School. Pass the School and after 30 yards you will see the drive to the Oakwood Park Hotel on your right hand side.

Arrival time: Rooms are available from 1600 hours.
